The Los Lagos Vistas HOA approved a $440 service to inspect and maintain community fire hydrants to ensure they work in case of fire emergency. Work is scheduled for June 17.

“We are required to have our four fire hydrants inspected each year,” HOA president Jason Hart said. “To my knowledge it has not been done in the six years I’ve lived here. I want to make sure they actually work should a fire ever occur.”

The city’s Fire Marshal is behind on such hydrant enforcement but will be pursuing inspections soon, Hart said.

The maintenance will include opening each hydrant for examination, turning off the water to the hydrant then recharging it by opening water flow then closing it. The process involves bleeding air from the caps and recharging hydrants. That means residents could see water discharges as hydrants are flushed for about one minute.

The hydrants are then lubed with safe grease, recapped, and stickered with a certification and date.

Jay Foster of Craig Pipecraft will do the work.
