Water to the entire Los Logos Vistas complex will be shut off from midnight to 4 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 18, to replace a water meter. It usually takes about 15 minutes to replace the meter once work starts.

Lake Havasu City is replacing approximately 19,000 water meters with new, high-tech cellular ultrasonic meters to improve billing accuracy, detect leaks in real-time, and eliminate the need for manual, in-person, monthly meter readings. The $10 million project addresses aging infrastructure, reduces water loss, and allows residents to track their usage via an online portal, according to City communications.

The project is supported by a $3 million Water Infrastructure Finance Authority (WIFA) grant  for startup, plus a matching city share of $750,000.

City staff went shopping and decided on a 10-year Beacon SaaS (Software as a Service) Managed Solution Agreement, a master agreement that includes meter purchases, the customer website portal, wireless data delivery, and a software-service subscription that will adjust annually based on the Consumer Price Index, a government economic inflation measurement.

The project began in 2022 when a City rate study revealed water losses were above an industry standard of 10%. The study concluded the city needed the new-technology water meters to allow more precise measuring, high-use alerts, and better water tracking.  That’s when the city also doubled water and sewer rates, which also led to the Los Lagos Vistas HOA dues increases over two years.

Badger Meters won the project bid.
