Pilot program aims to make recycling easier, more effective

The Social Committee is testing an easier way for residents to recycle aluminum cans and support neighborhood fundraising — starting with Circle 6. If the pilot goes well, recycling containers will be added to all seven circles. Your feedback is welcome.
Committee Chair Joyce Witte shared that some residents expressed frustration about the inconvenience of carrying empty beverage cans down to the maintenance area or pool. To make it easier for residents to participate, a dedicated recycling container has been placed near the dumpster in circle six so neighbors can deposit aluminum cans as easily as taking out the trash.
“This simple change makes participation more convenient for everyone,” Joyce explained. “Our goal is to increase recycling redemption funds, which will directly benefit more community projects.”
The HOA’s aluminum can recycling was started years ago by longtime resident Joanne Mill in circle four. The program has continued with dedicated receptacles by the maintenance shed and at the pool. Money raised by aluminum can recycling buys cleaning supplies for the pool area bathrooms and helps with bigger projects such as the purchase of lounge chair cushions and the pool toy box.
Residents are encouraged to recycle their aluminum beverage cans only in the new bin in Circle 6 and share their feedback. Please remember not to deposit trash, pet waste, or any non-recyclable items to ensure smooth operations.
Collected cans will be periodically gathered and taken to a nearby recycling center for reimbursement. During this pilot phase, containers will be monitored and emptied into an area near the maintenance shed for consolidation before transportation to the redemption center. Resident participation will also influence whether bins will be added to all circles.
“Let’s work together to make this recycling effort successful for Los Lagos Vistas as we support a cleaner environment,” Joyce added. "Thank you for supporting this initiative!"
