Leaks Pursued
Rec-Area water shut off Sunday night
The HOA continues its search for water leaks in the Los Lagos Vistas pipeline delivery system. The newest search comes Sunday, Aug. 9, when water will be shut off to the Rec Area overnight from about 6 p.m. to determine if there is a leak in that line.
The water shutoff will mean no restroom, shower, or faucet use by the pool during the shutoff.
An earlier test found that a water main shutoff to townhomes didn’t reveal leakage, meaning the leak likely is in the line to the pool area.
Isolating lines to discover leaks was enabled with the repair of water-main valves by Circles 2 and 5 entrances. The plan is to isolate lines for shutoff then see if water continues to flow, indicating leaks.
New valve repairs apparently increased overall water pressure, causing more leaks in Circles 2 and 6, but HOA President Jason Hart is confident that continuing to repair discovered leaks will ultimately secure the system.
Hart said water usage was down 32% this week compared to the previous seven days. Leaks of 2,400 to 3,000 gallons of water per hour were discovered after Lake Havasu City installed a new meter at the entrance of the complex. The decrease shows we’re on the right path, Hart said.
He discounted concerns that the complex’s entire water system might have to be replaced, favoring continued pursuit of leaks as they come up.
The HOA spent about $80,000 to repair a water main into Circle 7 plus service lines to each unit. Last year, the HOA decided to let its Maintenance Team handle what had become frequent leaks to save time and money. However, the discovery of massive water line problems in Circle 7 instigated the HOA decision to seek additional help and a permanent solution to the ongoing Circle 7 leaks.
In related news, paving repairs will begin next week along Montana Vista and at Circles 2, 6, and 5 to cover trenching required to repair valves and stop leaks.
